The following people have expressed interest in working with AFM members, very often in a NED role.  Their CVs are provided.  Note that inclusion in the list of candidates should not infer that AFM has undertaken any pre-vetting, or endorses their suitability.

Roger Alexander

Roger is a vastly experienced insurance/reinsurance professional with over 40 years service in some of the largest insurance groups in the world such as Royal & Sun Alliance and MetLife. 

 

Roger is now looking to broaden his horizons as well as sharing his knowledge and experience by becoming a non-executive director.

 

During his career he developed many transferrable management skills in strategy, budgets/planning, legal/compliance/risk, operational oversight, financial analysis and accountability as well as product and people management. 

 

Roger has also forged strong communication and inter-personal skills  through extensive client and partnership management as well as involvement with trade associations, committees and working parties.

Nigel Briggs

Risk, compliance and governance professional across life, pensions, banking, mortgages and general insurance. Former CEO of a financial mutual and currently a building society executive with responsibility for Compliance.

Andy Brown

I am an experienced Non-Executive Director with career Board Level roles in the PLC, Mutual and Public Sectors and am now seeking further NED roles.

I am currently a Non-Executive Director at the Cambridge Building Society where I sit on the Risk Committee, Operational and Conduct and Remuneration Committees. In addition, I am also an NED at Reliance Bank Ltd (sitting on the Credit Committee) and Direct Line Group Pension Trustee Company Ltd (sitting on the Investment Committee).

Previously I enjoyed being an NED of the Civil Service Motoring Association for over 6 years where I sat on the Strategy and regulated Operational Boards as well as chairing the Remuneration Committee and sitting on the Nominations Committee. 

My career has spanned complex organisations and a broad range of markets giving me great insight into how different businesses operate which enables me to bring a healthy degree of constructive challenge to the Executive whilst applying the key disciplines of good governance and risk management. 

Having been appointed to the board of The Children’s Mutual in 2008 until its sale to Forester Life in 2013, I am ideally placed to understand the issues and pressures facing Friendly Societies and the Mutual sector.

Mark Butterworth

Mark is a highly experienced specialist in Governance, Risk Management and Audit in both the Life and Non-Life insurance areas.  Having held director positions as Managing Director, COO and Director of Operations, Mark's skills include establishment of Solvency II compliant practices, analysis of business planning and strategy, as well as significant experience in regulatory affairs.  Mark is a past Non-Executive Chairman of The Institute of Risk Management.

Martin Collins

After a successful career in the friendly society movement over more than 20 years, including six years as Chief Executive, Martin is looking to a NED role to extend his time in the mutual movement.

A chartered accountant, Martin’s first role in financial services was in finance and he held the role of Finance Director for 14 years.

Working for a smaller firm enabled Martin to build a knowledge of all areas of running a society, including risk, complaince, secretariat and corporate governance.  This varied experiences provides a strong foundation for the role of non-executive-director.

Jane Dumeresque

Experienced professional with skills in finance, marketing, governance and risk.  Former CEO of 7thlargest Peer-to-Peer lender, growing loans made from £30m to £170m in 2 ½ years.  Strong focus on local community and individual responsibility with lenders and borrowers having a direct relationship with each other.  CFO of a number of FCA regulated, AIM listed businesses with experience of risk assessment and stress testing capital requirements. Qualified ACA with KPMG London and MBA from the London Business School.  Former NED of Japanese quoted, FCA regulated financial service business, and now looking to build a further NED portfolio.

Rob Edwards

Rob is an experienced Board level Financial Services professional, having operated as both an Exective Director, and Non-Executive Director, and he has worked exclusively in Financial Services for nearly 40 years.

Rob currently holds one Non-Executive position (since July 2014) with Kingston Unity Friendly Society (KU), and now Chairs KU’s Investment Sub Committee, serves on the Audit Risk Sub Committee, and currently Chairs a Working Party to review systems strategy and potential migration to new Operating Platform.  He is now semi-retired and seeks a further NED position.
