Steve Bryan
The Exeter
I am extremely passionate about the protection marketplace, working tirelessly to strengthen The Exeter’s proposition and deliver on its brand promise of ‘You matter more’, for advisers, members, the industry, and colleagues. Working with my team to build meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships across the industry, delivering the best outcomes for customers and advisers is what keeps me motivated.
The Exeter’s mutuality plays a key part in the positioning of our propositions within the market and helps to set us apart in an ultra-competitive arena, dominated by large corporate institutions. I have been instrumental in driving The Exeter’s growth in recent years, building on the solid strategy that was refreshed in 2023.
I am a great believer in collaboration for the benefit of all and this, coupled with a passion and energy for driving the sector forward, is a main strength I feel I could bring to the AFM Board. My wide span of interest drives me to increase my personal reach in the protection industry by immersing myself in progressive areas, challenging how we can better ourselves in the way that we work and the culture we create. Amongst other things I am:
- An ambassador for the Women in Protection Network
- A protagonist in the industries Diversity and Inclusion Finance Forum (DIFF)
- An advocate of senior leader development, proudly sponsoring colleagues’ roles with:
- Association of British Insurers (ABI) working groups
- Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) steering committee
- ABI Future Leaders Programme
- The Exeter Future Leaders programme
- Executive representative of our ESG committee, determining our social priorities and reducing our impact on the environment
As an Executive Director, in a proudly inclusive business, I challenge the Board, the Executive Committee, and senior leaders in a positive way, encouraging everyone to be seen and heard, ensuring everyone around the table gets a voice and encouraging others to trust themselves and their ideas.
